This all began when I made an independent documentary about crafts people in the region of Umbria, Italy. Many craft studios told me that generations of craftsmen would soon end with them; thus the title of the documentary, "The Last Generation". I wondered what could be done to avoid the disappearance of these beautiful handmade crafts. I had such a wonderful time doing the segment on bookbinding that I signed on as an apprentice. We have now been binding together for twelve years and I continue to be in awe of their mastery of this difficult craft.
My teachers, master craftsmen, Peppe Baldinelli and Fausto Rossi have continued to help design and create these fine bindings through the years. It is their hands that make these books so incredibly special. They have taught and inspired many students who have also become fine binders and now produce for Daisy Arts. I am happy to be able to share with you the unique quality and aesthetic that comes from hundreds of years of tradition. Our line has been expanded to include a wide range of leather accessories and fine stationery. I am sure that you will find all of our work extra-ordinary in both quality and workmanship. We are proud to be carrying on a millennium of tradition in fine leather work. |
